Sarah's LA Infant Massage

What is Infant Massage?

Infant massage is an ancient tradition of using nurturing touch as a way of lovingly communicating and bonding with your child. It fosters trust and and understanding, while also working towards improving and maintaining the health of your baby. These specialized techniques can be relaxing for your child, encouraging better sleep and calmness while also being able to stimulate them and effect positive behavioral reinforcements.

Specifically, infant (or pediatric) massage refers to the process of stroking the muscles using a variety of massage techniques. Vocalization, eye contact, and other bonding activities are also important components of the massage. The techniques, or strokes, are done WITH your baby, not to them.

Infant massage is a lifelong skill that can help parents connect and communicate with their baby, giving them the best loving start in life while promoting health and happiness.

The Benefits of Infant Massage

For Babies:

  • promotes bonding and secure attachment

  • relieves gas and colic

  • promotes relaxation which may be shown through improved sleep patterns

  • stimulates the circulatory and digestive systems

  • releases the love hormone, oxytocin, in both parent and baby

For Parents:

  • promotes better understanding of their baby

  • increases reading and respecting cues

  • promotes bonding and secure attachment

  • decrease in postnatal depression

  • strengthens the bond between adopted and fostered children and their parents

...and so many more!

Regularly massaging your infant can enhance motor development and reduced cortisol levels. It's especially helpful for children who require additional support, including premature babies and HIV+ babies.

Throughout the course, you will learn all of these various benefits first hand as well as becoming familiar with your baby's cues and behavioral states.

"Sarah runs such an open and individualized class. I was nervous about my baby not "behaving" but this class really nurtures each parent and babies personal experience. My baby and I get an opportunity to experience our own journey in a relaxed environment  with no judgement. Through infant massage, I have learned to listen and soothe my baby and she falls fast asleep. We are eternally grateful for our new found rest!"
